As per the current Midland City Education Association (MCEA) Agreement, REQUIRED

An endorsement in Special Education SE is required. Preference will be given to candidates with an endorsement in Emotional Impairment and a background in elementary education.

JOB SUMMARY

Instruct students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible citizens.

QUALIFICATION

Education

Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent

Must possess valid teaching certification with appropriate endorsement for subject area.

Properly Placed previously HQ with required endorsements as determined by district assignment

Additional education and training in specific area may be required depending on assignment

Ability to withstand the physical and mental rigors of teaching

Demonstrated Technical Skills

Computer knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office and Google Suite and other basic computer skills

Familiarity with student information systems

Possess computer competency and familiarity with emerging technologies

Possess well-developed problem-solving skills

Possess sound independent judgment, including handling of confidential matters

Possess working knowledge of best practice strategies, able to make research-based decisions

Ability to collect and analyze data to assess student achievement

Ability to provide differentiated instruction for students

Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff members, and students verbally and in writing

Ability to provide and maintain an orderly classroom environment

QUALIFICATIONS SPECIFIC TO SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHING POSITIONS

Working knowledge of IEP and Special Education documentations

Ability to manage special education caseload, including conducting IEP meetings

Ability to complete IEP forms and monitor compliance in accordance with IDEA and MARSE rules

Ability to collect and analyze data to assess student achievement

Ability to provide differentiated instruction for students and make accommodations based on individual student data

Ability to identify and incorporate strategic and intensive interventions as dictated by individual student data

Ability to work with special needs students in an inclusive setting

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Successfully complete district-assigned trainings per established deadlines - job-specific training will be provided as available

Teach district-approved curriculum

Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students

Administer and develop subject-specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans

Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, students achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment

Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day as needed

Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration

Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan

Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements and results in student growth

Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study

Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment

Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment

Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required resulting in optimum performance

Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g., grades, lesson plans, following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations, quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations

Use various tools to assess the growth and achievement of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required

Evaluate pupils academic and social growth, keep appropriate hard copy and web-based records, and prepare progress/grade reports

Accommodate the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required

Participate in co-teaching situations with a special education teacher as assigned

Support other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans

Direct student teachers, support staff, and/or volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students

Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior

Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero-tolerance offenses, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to state law and board policies

Respond in a timely manner to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators, students, central office staff, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information, and/or direction

Predictable, reliable attendance

Fine motor skills and ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted to assist with student behavior management to ensure student safety and to lift and move equipment and supplies

Able to stand or sit for long periods of time up to entire shift as tasks require, as well as stoop, squat, bend, crouch, reach, kneel, and climb stairs frequently during the shift

Able to ride in a vehicle as necessary (e.g., training on occasion)

Able to work indoors and outdoors during all seasons, weather, and temperatures as permitted

May require travel to off-site teaching locations

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Communicate effectively via district-assigned email on a daily basis as determined by supervisor

Accurately complete absence reporting via tracking system per assigned deadlines

Consistent and reliable performance of job responsibilities

Perform additional responsibilities related to at-risk populations as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent

Perform other job responsibilities deemed appropriate by the building administrator and/or Superintendent
