Bus Assistant Duties and Responsibilities
An individual employed by the Gallup Mckinley County School District to help the school bus driver and students. A school bus assistant shall be provided on school buses, when necessary, when required by law or regulation, or when required by a student's IEP.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives general direction from Transportation Foreman, Transportation Supervisor, and The Transportation Director or Coordinator.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as directed.
Essential Functions:
Knowledge
School bus assistants must have knowledge of customer service, transportation tablets and routing software, student accountability, de-escalation/Student management and methods and techniques of bus cleanliness. Must have knowledge in documenting and reporting incidents to your supervisor, proper use of seatbelts, harnesses and wheelchair restraints and loading and unloading procedures.
Ability to
Communicate clearly, participate in school bus safety drills, administer first aid, De-escalation and Student management. Incident reporting to your supervisor and adhere to GMCS policies and state regulations.
Physical Requirements
Perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the bus yard and school bus, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and keeping your bus clean. Assist students with special needs, keep bus documents updated and attend transportation meetings when scheduled.
Equipment and Technology
Clock in and out on time clock kiosk, enter leave request on frontline and use tablets on school buses.
Work Environment
Must be able to work with various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions at work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After-hours work may be required
Qualifications
Must meet all training requirements and certification requirements.
Must have an interest in empathy for children.
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years old.
Must submit a criminal background check
Must submit a driving record from the motor vehicle department.
