General Function:

Coordination of the district's early childhood initiatives in alignment with the District Strategic Plan and in support of younger children's developmental progress related to learning. Work on various projects, grants, and statewide initiatives at the discretion of the Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction.

Education/Training/Experience:

Minimum: Master's degree in Education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. NMPED Level II or Level III Teaching, or Level IIIA, or State-Recognized Credential in Early Childhood.

Preferred: New Mexico teaching license, Level II IA, and/or administrative license. Bilingual: English-Spanish

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current theory and best practices in early childhood education. Experience with program development. Ability to identify needed program enhancements and improvement opportunities. Ability to analyze data presented in different forms to identify professional development needs of staff. Experience with developing, organizing, and delivering professional development. Knowledge of different funding sources and experience writing grants and managing budgets. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with peers, parents, and community members.

Essential Job Functions:

Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change over time to meet the organization's needs. Current essential functions include the following:

  • Coordinate and expand the Pre-K and other related early childhood programs in SFPS by working with external agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with program implementation and be responsible for all program reporting to state agencies.
  • Attend State meetings to ensure understanding and implementation of the different delivery systems.
  • Facilitate a district Early Childhood Education Committee to include community-based early childhood providers to develop recommendations for aligning pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs.
  • Pursue and write grants for program funding.
  • Collect and analyze data components associated with or required to meet state/District reporting elements.
  • Coordinate and monitor enrollment with the Data Department, including assisting the Data Dept with the lottery, recruiting families, and assisting them with the application, and send monthly reports to the State.
  • Collaborate with the Wellness team to ensure families in Adelante are identified and enrolled in the PreK program.
  • Provide technical assistance and professional development to teachers and principals in the area of best practices in early childhood education.
  • Maintain effective collaboration with other departments.
  • Keep abreast of technical, legislative, and professional developments and trends affecting early childhood education.
  • Development and monitoring of Pre-K budget, including contracts and orders.
  • Review and approve timesheets for noon duty and specials in a timely manner.
  • Perform ongoing program evaluation through on-site observations and data analysis to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Directly supervise coaches to ensure compliance with State mandates and site support.
  • Support implementation of curriculum and revision and implementation of instructional materials throughout the District.
  • Represent SFPS in statewide/NMPED Early Childhood Committees, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education Department in community outreach and child find identification.
  • Works towards inclusion by collaborating with the Special Ed Department on early identification and delivery of services in all PreK community programs.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Salary Range:

$41,000 - $93,000+

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform light lifting, but not more than 35 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work and travel may be required.

Environmental Conditions:

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
