CLSD District Literacy Coordinator

Note: All positions with Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) require a post-offer/pre-employment background check. Some positions have additional requirements as established by federal or state rules and regulations. This position is funded by the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) federal grant, awarded to NMPED in 2024. Funding is dependent upon congressional appropriation each year.

General Function

The CLSD District Literacy Coordinator will support comprehensive literacy teaching and learning systems. This may include supporting HQIM implementation, MLSS systems, literacy coaching, professional development and materials purchase and alignment. The CLSD District Literacy Coordinator will work on site within the district. The CLSD District Literacy Coordinator may be expected to perform CLSD related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job related knowledge and skills.

Education/Training/Experience

Minimum:

Level 2, or 3A Instructional Leader. K-8 license or Secondary license. Five or more years in Bilingual/EL Education. Level 2 teaching license. Bilingual: English-Spanish.

Preferred:

Masters in Education with a focus on Literacy. Level 3 teaching license. Reading Endorsement and / or administrators license. Specialized training in coaching. Completion of LETRS training and / or AIM Pathway training. Experience teaching adults (as adjunct professor, district administrator or professional development specialist). Mix of relevant experiences including: Delivering professional development support to teachers and school site personnel; Data collection and analysis; familiar with high school reform/design and working with diverse populations and needs; providing training or technical assistance; Experience developing and/or advocating for effective instructional practices.

  • Knowledge of summative and interim assessments in NM

Essential Job Functions

All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following and are not all inclusive. CLSD District Literacy Coordinator may be expected to perform CLSD related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job related knowledge and skills.

  1. Lead alignment of district literacy practices to the state literacy approach by conducting a district Literacy Needs Assessment to identify the schools in highest need, address student needs and outline how evidence-based practices and professional development will be implemented.

  2. Support the creation and / or refinement of the K-12 District Literacy Plan using change models.

  3. Oversee monitoring and continuous improvement of district literacy outcomes.

  4. Ensure that CLSD funding is used in accordance with the parameters of the grant.

  5. Support and supervise one to three CLSD literacy coaches (who will provide in-person coaching for general education teachers, special education teachers, and reading interventionists), as well as collaborate with the school's instructional coaches, as determined by data review and needs assessment.

  6. Allocate grant funding for professional development and/or materials based on the district Literacy Needs Assessment.

  7. Facilitate literacy PD, including in the strategies recommended in the IES Practice Guides, and in use of assessments to plan instruction and intervention, Communities of Practice, and other NMPED required training.

  8. Meet at least monthly with the Director of Instruction or Superintendent regarding the district literacy plan and its implementation.

  9. Attend all district literacy team meetings.

  10. Attend and support school-based Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

  11. Attend all training for CLSD District Literacy Coordinators.

  12. Support and prepare for CLSD site monitoring visits from NMPED and the US Department of Education.

  13. Adhere to all CLSD compliance, reporting and evaluation requirements at the federal and state level.

  14. Adhere to all grant implementation processes, procedures, and expectations. 15. Adhere to CLSD statutory requirements and work only on CLSD related work.

  15. Keep work logs as necessary for documentation of CLSD activities.

  16. Be the district contact person with the regional educational cooperative (REC) and NM PED.

  17. Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.

  18. Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Santa Fe Public Schools.

  19. Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.

  20. Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.

  21. Shares responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.

  22. Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.

  23. Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.

  24. Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within the area of responsibility.

  25. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work may be required. Travel for professional learning required.

Environmental Conditions

Travel to school sites is required. Must have the ability to sit at a desk or computer for long periods during the day. Heavy telephone use. Typical office environment with many interruptions all day. Most work is performed indoors with some driving involved, traveling from site to site.
