BURTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT RESOURCE SPECIALIST JOB SUMMARY Resource Specialist will, under supervision of the site administrator and with the cooperation of the Director of Special Education, perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible tasks including the implementation of the school curriculum based on the identified needs of students. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Credential: Basic California teaching credential(s) that authorizes participation as a Resource Specialist. 2. Education: Bachelors? degree, including all courses needed to meet all credentialing requirements. 3. Experience: Demonstrated successful teaching experience. 4. Personal Qualifications: Better than average recommendations from professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher. Ability to: Maintain and verify accuracy and completeness of records. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. Meet schedules and deadlines. Plan and organize work. Plan, organize and evaluate education programs for identified students. Provide work direction to others as assigned. Analyze and interpret test scores for purposes of modifying instruction. Make appropriate recommendations to teachers regarding instructional programs for identified students. Teach under conditions which necessitate small group and individualized instruction in collaborative settings within the regular classroom and/or in an extended day setting. Make verbal and written reports to school personnel, parents, School Site Council and administration. Follow-through with directives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION 1. Perform a wide variety of specialized tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate. 2. Provide direct service to pupils in all areas of curriculum instruction. 3. Provide leadership and participation on the IEP team. 4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the special needs of pupils. 5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 6. Evaluates pupil academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress and grade reports, communicates with parents on the individual pupil?s progress. RESOURCE SPECIALIST Burton Elementary School District 7. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 8. Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and interest centers. 9. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. 10. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. 11. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. 12. Administers tests in accordance with district testing programs. 13. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals. 14. Participates with other professional staff members in special programs for students. 15. Match teaching styles of teachers and learning styles of students for maximum benefit to students. 16. Maintains records on identified students as required. 17. Provides consultant services, resource information and materials regarding students with special needs to other staff members and parents. 18. Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements. 1. Seldom = Less than 25% 3. Often = 51 - 75% 2. Occasional = 25 - 50% 4. Very Frequent = 76%+ 4 Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. 3 Ability to stand for extended periods of time. 4 Ability to see for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students. 4 Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. 4 Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation. 2 Ability to bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl. 3 Ability to lift 50 pounds. 3 Ability to carry 25 pounds. 2 Ability to operate office equipment. 4 Ability to reach in all directions.
