CTE - Pharmacy Technician Teacher
11-month position, 220 days
Auburn High School and Christiansburg High School in Montgomery County Public Schools, Virginia, is now accepting applications for a Pharmacy Technician teacher position available for the 2026-2027 school year. This is an 11-month position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach Pharmacy Technician courses to high school students based on current industry standards and state curriculum. Advise the co-curricular Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). Prepare students for a Board-Approved Industry Credential exam, such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the ExCPT Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians. Manage pharmacy lab technology equipment and specialized curriculum. Work cooperatively with local pharmacies to coordinate potential clinical or work-based learning experiences. Work cooperatively with others in the education setting. Prepare students for employment or further education.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a current Virginia Department of Education teaching license with an endorsement in Pharmacy Technician, or Be eligible for a Virginia Technical Professional License by meeting the following requirements: • Hold a current unrestricted Virginia license or certification as a professional practitioner in the pharmacy field, e.g., Registered Pharmacist or Certified Pharmacy Technician. • Completed two years of full-time occupational experience or the equivalent within the past five years in the pharmacy field. • Completed a health occupations certificate or associate degree program from an accredited institution in the pharmacy specialty area. • Hold a recognized industry certification credential in the pharmacy field. • Willingness to complete 9 semester hours in professional studies, human development and learning, 3 hours curriculum and instruction in CTE, 3 hours, and applications of instructional technology or classroom behavior management. • Have strong written, verbal presentation, and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and industry partners. • Experience fostering an inclusive learning environment. • Ability to be dependable and punctual.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous teaching experience. Technical knowledge and ability. Eligibility and experience with dual enrollment.
FLSA Status: Exempt
SALARY: $58,115.58 - $93,478.64 annually, with benefits commensurate with experience. Salary may change due to 2026-2027 budget considerations.
