GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of the Classroom Paraprofessional is to assist teachers in providing for physical and instructional needs of students and achieve instructional goals and objectives.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma / GED required; Associate''s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience working with children in an educational capacity.
- Must be legally able to work in the United States.
- Must complete the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check.
- Must comply with TEA regulations, applicable federal, state, and local laws, school policies, and standards of the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a patient, flexible, and versatile manner.
- Must display strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and prioritize.
- Must be able to work autonomously as well as a member of a team.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Shares a strong commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of Westlake Academy.
- Assists teachers in implementing curriculum.
- Assists in maintaining an environment conducive to learning, including a neat, clean, and orderly classroom.
- Supervises small groups of students.
- Assists teacher in preparing instructional materials, administration, and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Assists with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Conducts instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; works with individual students or small groups.
- Supervises students throughout the school day, inside and outside classroom, as assigned.
- Manages the behavior of assigned students as needed according to Academy policies.
- Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and special events.
- Utilizes effective communication skills; ensures all interactions with students, Academy personnel, and parents are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
- Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Complies with all WA policies/procedures, legal requirements, verbal, and written directives.
- Uses methods and modes of instruction reflective of the IB program; directs the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals.
- Maintains confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees outside the school.
- Possesses basic technology competencies.
- Continually supports classroom methods, teaching techniques, increase knowledge of content subject matter, and interpersonal relationships.
- Accepts and uses constructive feedback in a professional manner.
OTHER DUTIES
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Primary Principal or Head of School.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated at least annually by the Primary Principal or Assistant Principal.
