Basic Function

Assist the Director of Special Education by providing administrative and technical staff assistance in the implementation of the policies and procedures related to special education services. Serve as a liaison to school district personnel in coordinating all programs and services related to students with special needs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Chair and/or attend admission and release committee (ARCs) as needed and upon requests from school staff and or parents.

To consult with special education personnel regarding procedures, technology, record keeping and implementing Individual Education Programs to ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines.

To assist Director of Special Education with data collection for required federal, state and local reports.

To assist school personnel in working with the transportation department regarding provision of transportation services to special education students.

To monitor and coordinate the use of all special education forms at the school level including referral and placement forms, IEP's, data entry forms, child count forms, and other forms as may be required by district policy or state statue.

To monitor and audit the due process folders at the school level.

Supervise and evaluate special education staff and agency/program staff as assigned by the Director.

To attend workshops, conferences, and meetings necessary to maintain and update professional knowledge and to provide professional development for school staff based on information obtained through these trainings.

Assist with staff development projects as needed and facilitate various staff meetings or other group as assigned.

Monitor and facilitate Medicaid billing.

To perform other special education related duties as may be requested by the Director of Special Programs.

Knowledge of:

? Knowledgeable in the areas of due process including referral, timelines, ARC procedures, Least Restrictive Environments, etc.

Personal Qualities Needed:

? Demonstrates initiative in problem solving and completion of tasks.

? Schedules self effectively.

? Maintains self-control and decorum in the full range of professional activities.

? Demonstrates an ability to accomplish tasks under pressure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

? Kentucky Certification for the Director of Special Education preferred but not required; and

? Kentucky Certification in Special Education; and

? Five years of successful teaching experience; and

? Must have knowledge of the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
