The Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of all food products produced by Barcel USA. This includes implementing and maintaining food safety protocols, conducting regular audits and inspections, and training employees on food safety best practices. The supervisor will also be responsible for managing and updating food safety policies and procedures, as well as coordinating and communicating with external regulatory agencies. The primary focus of the role is to maintain a high level of quality and safety in all food products produced by the company. The associate will lead with behaviors that promote cultural change through outstanding associate relationships.

  • Promote and foster a proactive culture of food safety throughout the organization by encouraging employee engagement and accountability at all levels.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with regulatory, customer, and industry requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections and assessments of production processes, equipment, facilities, and finished products to identify potential food safety risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver food safety, sanitation, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training programs to ensure employees understand and follow safe food handling standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and Sanitation, to integrate food safety requirements into all operational processes.
  • Review and analyze production and quality data to identify trends, evaluate performance, and recommend improvements to strengthen food safety systems.
  • Monitor changes in food safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices, ensuring company compliance and continuous enhancement of food safety programs.
  • Lead food safety incident investigations, manage day-to-day issue resolution, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with regulatory agencies, third-party auditors, and industry stakeholders, while communicating regulatory updates to internal teams.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee internal audits, customer audits, regulatory inspections, and third-party certification audits, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Ensure all food safety and sanitation records, reports, logs, and documentation are completed accurately, maintained properly, and readily available for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Champion and sustain a strong food safety culture by promoting awareness, ownership, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Review, update, and maintain the HACCP Plan, Food Safety Plan, Food Defense Plan, and all supporting food safety documentation to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Support company initiatives related to quality, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or related technical field is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a food production setting, preferably in a food safety or quality role.
  • Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations and standards, including FDA and USDA regulations.
  • Experience in developing and implementing food safety programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Professional certifications in food safety or quality (e.g. HACCP, SQF, GFSI, PCQI) are required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
