Job Title: 10 Month School Secretary Location: H. Olive Day Elementary School FTE: 30 Hours/Week Schedule: 6 Hours/day (Monday - Friday 9:45am - 3:45pm)
Job Summary: Norfolk Public Schools is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual to serve as our 10 month building secretary. This position serves as the critical hub of a school''s administration, managing daily operations and facilitating communication between the principal, staff, students, and parents The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities and timelines, maintain confidentiality, and support the district's commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.
Qualifications: Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience; school or secretarial experience preferred Strong technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain strict confidentiality
Authority: Reports to the Building Principal or Designee
Professional Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions): Greet, assist and direct parents, teachers, administrators, and staff Sort, distribute and process mail Collate employee timesheets Answer telephones Maintain records, files and reports Manages student attendance, handles enrollment or withdrawal documentation, and updates student information systems Maintain teachers schedules Process purchase orders and requisitions Process deliveries of supplies and materials and direct to appropriate locations/staff Maintain inventory of school supplies Assist with notices and other projects Distribute/collect materials to/from teachers at the start/close of school Assist with projects as defined and assigned by the principal/assistant principal Assists Administrative Assistant with office responsibilities Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a public school Experience coordinating multiple calendars and managing frequent tasks Ability to handle continuous distractions Physical Working Conditions: Frequently required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch. Ability to lift and move special education documents and files as needed. Ability to use computers, special education management systems, and district technology.
Terms of Employment: 10-month Compensation: FLSA Non-Exempt (Hourly) Salary Range: $22.21/hour (Step 1) - $24.52/hour (Step 5) *Salary commensurate with experience
