1:1 SCHOOL NURSE, ELEMENTARY

JOB DESCRIPTION

The current posting is for a 1:1 nursing position. The nurse will provide 1:1 medical care for an elementary student.

The school nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting children's health status. The primary focus of school nursing services is preventing illness and disability, along with early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurse is uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures. He or she supports the education process by working to assure students' health.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education/Certification

  • Current Michigan Registered Nurse License and State School Nurse Certificate, OR
  • Current Michigan Licensed Practicing Nurse License and Certificate

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with children and/or working in the K-12 setting is preferred.
  • Experience in nursing with students with disabilities; minimum, one year.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Performs necessary medical interventions including but not limited to gastrointestinal tube feedings and g-tube replacement, tracheostomy suctioning and replacement, use of resuscitation bag, medication administration via trach, nasal route, and g-tube, and other interventions as needed.
  • Assesses and identifies the signs and symptoms of respiratory distress.
  • Documents all medications administered and treatments provided to students
  • Maintains security of school health supplies.
  • Serves as a resource person regarding health concerns.
  • Communicate with parents on the health needs of the child.
  • Maintains and inventories necessary medical supplies.
  • Seeks regular opportunities for professional growth.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
  • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Adheres to Saline Area Schools policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards of practice.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS

  • Work in standard office and school building environments requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina, and environmental awareness.
  • Ability to ride the school bus with the student to/from the student's home
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

FLSA STATUS

Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 10-month employee plus 5 weeks summer hourly pay
  • A full benefit package as defined by the Saline Area Schools Non-Affiliated

SALARY

Starting at $51,500 commensurate with experience
