TITLE: Assistant School Principal - Elementary

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools. The applicant must demonstrate a knowledge of and an ability to assist in the implementation of developmental educational programs and to help delivery developmentally appropriate services to students. Preference will be given to applicants having successful elementary administrative experience.

SALARY: Based on teacher's salary schedule, and approved supplement

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 220 days

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant for this position shall:

  • Have elementary teaching experience.
  • Have an earned West Virginia Elementary Principal's Certificate for the applicable grades.
  • Provide information regarding amount of experience relevant to the position.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of effective developmental educational programs and to deliver developmentally appropriate services to students.
  • Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  • Assist in supervising the school's educational program.
  • Assist in assuming the responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
  • Assumes the responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant as delegated by the principal.
  • Assumes the responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according due process to the rights of students.
  • Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with Board policy.
  • Assists in assuming responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.
  • Assists in the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students as well as other record keeping functions as the principal may direct.
  • Assist the principal in evaluating and counseling staff members regarding their individual and group performance.
  • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and attend school sponsored activities and functions as directed by the principal.
  • Aid parent, faculty, and student groups as re quested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
  • Assist in providing instructional leadership and support within the school buildings.
  • Assist in creating a climate conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Assist in implementing a system to monitor student progress.
  • Assist in establishing and implementing a school improvement process.
  • Assist in the maintenance and operation of the school via delegated supervision of professional, paraprofessional and service personnel.
  • Acts as liaison between the school and the community.
  • Conducts one's self in a positive professional manner at all times in order to enhance good public relations, foster loyalty, good ethics and cooperation with all personnel.
