Wilson Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part-time/adjunct faculty for when a job is available to be filled for class instruction. These positions may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Part-time/adjunct faculty provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part-time, temporary basis. Only qualified, credentialed applicants will be considered.

This role involves teaching the NC CHW Standardized Core Competency Training (SCCT) curriculum to eligible students. The instructor must have a deep understanding of the CHW profession and the state's specific training requirements to effectively prepare students for NCCHWA certification.

Expected Work Hours: Flexible Scheduling

Key responsibilities

  • Curriculum delivery: Teach the NC CHW SCCT, a 96-hour course that covers the nine core competencies for CHWs, including communication, advocacy, outreach, and coordination skills.
  • Student evaluation: Administer tests, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with state standards.
  • Instructional planning: Prepare and update lesson plans, course overviews, and syllabi to ensure all material is current and aligned with the NCCHWA and NC DHHS requirements.
  • Classroom management: Oversee the learning environment, which may include virtual, in-person, or hybrid classes.
  • Resource management: Determine the need for and secure instructional supplies, ensuring their proper storage and security.
  • Student support: Address student needs and provide additional training on sensitive or complex topics, such as working with vulnerable populations.
  • Certification assistance: Guide students through the process of applying for certification with the NCCHWA upon successful course completion.

  • Instructional skills: Ability to facilitate engaging learning activities and effectively communicate complex health information.
  • Subject matter expertise: In-depth knowledge of core CHW competencies, including chronic disease management, health literacy, and addressing social determinants of health.
  • Cultural sensitivity: Ability to relate to and respectfully engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage administrative tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication and listening skills for interacting with students, staff, and external partners.

Education and Experience

Required

Certified as a Community Health Worker Instructor in the state of North Carolina

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, or related field and/or two years of community health and/or social services practice
