Job Description
We are seeking an Administrative Law Judge to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in administrative hearings, legal analysis, and decision writing and a proven ability to manage high-volume caseloads and deliver timely, well-reasoned decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct multiple telephonic hearings daily, take testimony, make evidentiary rulings, develop a complete record, and maintain judicial temperament and decorum.
- Review case files and hearing records in preparation for proceedings.
- Ensure proper legal notice of hearing logistics and issues to all parties.
- Draft and issue final decisions applying Federal and Arizona law to facts in a timely manner.
- Respond promptly to work-related communications throughout the workday.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent time management with ability to complete a high volume of cases within strict timelines.
- Clear, plain writing on complex legal issues and rationale.
- Working knowledge of, or ability to learn and apply, rules of evidence, administrative procedure, judicial and legal ethics, and due process requirements.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, applicable federal and state laws and regulations across administrative programs.
- Ability to understand human behavior and psychology relevant to hearings.
- Proficiency with word processing and communications software and ability to learn proprietary applications and virtual desktop tools.
- Active listening with strong analytical and synthesis skills.
- Ability to diplomatically control and minimize conflict between parties.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience serving as a hearing officer in administrative hearings.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing with a state Bar Association.
- Residence in Arizona.
Other Information
- Monday to Friday, Arizona business hours.
- 100% remote. Out-of-state candidates are acceptable.
- Out-of-state candidates must use personal computers and hardware. Access to required software will be through a virtual desktop.
