OverviewBehind every mission‑ready aircraft is a team dedicated to keeping it in the air.Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill a vacancy of Flight Maintenance Manager to lead our Aviation Unit's maintenance operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring our helicopters and aircraft are safe, reliable, and mission‑ready to support law enforcement operations throughout Pinellas County. As both a working supervisor and technical expert, you will oversee the aviation maintenance program, supervise and mentor a team of skilled mechanics, manage inspections and repairs, maintain FAA Part 145 Repair Station compliance, and help ensure our aircraft remain ready to respond whenever the community needs us.The ideal candidate is an experienced aviation maintenance professional who combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership skills. They are a proactive problem solver who can effectively manage competing priorities, make sound decisions, and maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational readiness. This individual takes pride in developing others, building a culture of accountability, and ensuring quality work is completed efficiently and accurately. The maintenance manager also serves as the Accountability Manager as required by the unit's FAA Repair Station certificate and manual. As part of their regular duties, the manager performs skilled work of complex difficulty involving maintenance of Sheriff's Office aircraft, Flight Unit equipment, and other repair tasks. Work is reviewed through observation and results obtained.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSUPERVISES OTHERS: YesQualificationsHigh School graduation or equivalent diploma from an institution accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or licensed as a degree granting institution by the Commission for Independent EducationThree (3) years of experience maintaining aircraft as a certificated mechanic, including experience in maintaining The Airbus AS350 seriesThree (3) years of experience repairing aircraft in a certificated FAA repair station, including one (1) year in the capacity of approving aircraft for return to serviceTwo (2) years of supervisory experienceMust hold a valid FAA Aircraft Mechanic License, with both Airframe & Powerplant ratings, that is current, per 14 CFR 65.83Must hold an Inspection Authorization (IA) certificationMust have ample personal mechanic's tools required in aircraft and airframe maintenance and repairMust possess a valid Florida driver's licenseKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of aircraft and airframe maintenance for both fixed and rotary wing aircraftKnowledge of the application of safety rules and regulations to aircraft repair workAbility to conduct periodic inspections to ensure safety and air worthiness of all aircraftAbility to use a wide variety of hand and power tools to maintain and repair aircraftSkilled in diagnosing and repairing both fixed and rotary wing aircraftTime management skillsProblem solving skillsInterpersonal skillsSupervisory skillsVerbal and written communication skillsAbility to perform all functions of the job classification without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplacePhysical AbilitiesThe physical abilities listed below are estimates of time spent during a typical work day to perform essential functions and responsibilities.
