Description

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Teacher collaborators will serve as practitioner partners supporting the development, review, and pilot implementation of constitutional learning modules for K-12 education in Hawai'i. Collaborators will review draft module content; provide feedback on standards alignment, grade-band appropriateness, and classroom usability; advise on instructional design; and assist in the development and review of pilot professional development activities and related materials. They will also assist with the development of AI-assisted learning tools, connect with ongoing educational initiatives, help identify practical considerations for implementation in Hawai'i schools, and contribute an educator practitioner perspective to strengthen the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of the project's instructional resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in education, social studies education, history, social sciences, or a related field, and five years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for K-12 classroom instruction, curriculum development, instructional design, standards alignment, or teacher professional development; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
  • Current or recent experience as a K-12 classroom teacher in Hawai'i.
  • Experience designing or facilitating teacher professional development, professional learning communities, workshops, curriculum institutes, or other educator-facing training activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing, presentation, shared-document, and online collaboration software, including tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, or comparable platforms.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience piloting instructional materials, revising curriculum based on implementation experience, or advising on classroom feasibility.
  • Experience working collaboratively with university faculty, state agencies, nonprofit organizations, schools, complexes, curriculum teams, or grant-funded education projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive, timely, and detailed feedback on draft instructional materials.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Gemini, Google Classroom, and Google Vids.
