Assistant Managers must be empowering leaders who can operate and manage diverse departments within the store, inspire and develop their staff, and take an active, hands‑on role. The Assistant Manager will help the Store Manager with budgeting, financial reporting, and profit and loss.Goodwill retail stores must successfully collect donations, produce product, manage waste, and provide excellent customer service to achieve optimal performance. Working with a team of professionals, you will help ensure the best use of resources to achieve our mission of helping people in our community reach their highest level of personal and economic potential. Assistant Managers will be team players who can manage change while motivating and inspiring others.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSWork closely with the Retail Store Manager to achieve goals and increase sales and donations.Recommend changes to operational procedures to maximize expense‑to‑revenue ratios.Promote safety for all employees, ensuring the store adheres to OSHA and CARF standards; may serve as Safety Representative on the operations and sales safety sub‑committee.Become certified on pallet jack, walkie stacker, forklift, hand dolly, or other equipment to train staff, oversee safety standards, and move/store donated product.Maintain awareness of competition and retail trends, suggesting appropriate actions.Maintain strong knowledge of the point‑of‑sale (POS) system.Empower, lead, and manage retail store staff, ensuring safety, productivity, and success.Oversee daily operations of all retail store functional areas: sales floor, storefront, donation store, production areas, internal product movement, and storage facilities.Directly responsible for hiring, performance management, employee goal setting, and termination recommendations for at least one department.Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Goodwill policies, the Employee Handbook, safety standards, and all supplemental policies.Partner with the Retail Store Manager to conduct employee training meetings and knowledge transfer.Be available for call after hours for alarm notifications.Job duties may extend beyond listed tasks and include additional responsibilities as required.BENCH STORE ASSISTANT MANAGERThe role may require assignments in locations beyond your immediate geographic area.Responsibilities include providing coverage for absences, facilitating training for team members, collaborating with other management personnel to enhance performance, and supporting business development initiatives.QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School diploma or equivalent is required; some college is preferred.Experience: At least 2 years supervising Retail Operations (or similar) with responsibility for the business's financial results.OTHER QUALIFICATIONSProficient in office equipment and software (Word, Excel) and web‑based applications (UKG).Manage corporate email and calendar (Outlook).Organizational skills to handle multiple projects, people, and functions.Ability to work within deadlines and a demanding environment.Understanding of marketing and retail principles.Understanding of production processes, deadlines, quality control, and staff empowerment.Ability to create, review, and understand statistical information to improve performance.Financial analysis skills.Adaptable to changing circumstances.Make difficult choices and be accountable for store performance.Train, develop, and recognize talent and leadership.Empower team to manage their departments.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Communicate upward, downward, and laterally efficiently.Empathy for people with disabilities and disadvantages.Obtain walkie stacker and/or forklift certification.Ability to relocate to other stores as business needs dictate.Work varied schedules: weekdays, weekends, evenings, holidays. For all passenger transportation services 25‑70 years. For CDL 25 years.
