SALARY: In accordance with the Hancock County Schools salary schedule for professionals, commensurate with experience and degree level.
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or his designee and in accordance with WV State Code § l SA-2-12, State Board Policy 5310.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Hancock County Schools is seeking an experienced facilities and maintenance leader to serve as Director of Facilities. This position works closely with the Superintendent and the Hancock County Board of Education to plan, prioritize, and manage the maintenance, grounds-keeping, and capital improvement needs of the district's buildings and sites. The Director oversees the maintenance department's staffing, budgets, and preventive-maintenance programs, and ensures the district's Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan (CEFP) is properly prepared, updated, and filed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a field related to construction or facility management, and/or five (5) years of experience as a project manager, facility manager, or in a directly related field.
Ten (10) years' experience in facility management or maintenance preferred.
Certification(s) related to facilities (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, engineering, or architecture) preferred.
Criminal background check required pursuant to WV Code
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the Superintendent and Board of Education to identify and prioritize district facility needs.
Prepare, update, and file the Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan (CEFP) and any required amendments.
Plan, organize, and direct maintenance and grounds-keeping operations, including staff schedules, work assignments, and in-service/safety training.
Develop long-range and preventive maintenance programs for sites, buildings, and equipment, including work-order and equipment-replacement procedures.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise all maintenance department projects, including cost analysis and expenditure of maintenance funds.
Develop and manage department budgets; monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with Board guidelines.
Determine staffing needs, and interview and recommend candidates for maintenance department vacancies.
Coordinate with administrators, staff, and outside organizations on construction, supply, equipment, and personnel needs.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety standards, and coordinate safety/health operations with regulatory agencies.
Report to the Board of Education as requested and represent the department at relevant meetings.
Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
EXPECTATIONS:
A self-directed leader who manages multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including comfort with current productivity and facilities-management software.
A collaborative, professional approach and willingness to travel as needed across the district.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary is based on the Hancock County Board of Education's Administrative/Professional Salary Schedule and is commensurate with experience and certifications. Employees are eligible for the West Virginia Public Employees Insurance Agency (PEIA) benefits, participation in a state retirement plan, and other benefits consistent with Board policy and West Virginia Code.
