Job Summary
About the Project:
The Aviation Meteorology project is a key initiative at A*STAR, focused on developing cutting-edge solutions to enhance air traffic management in Singapore. This project involves significant research and development in aviation meteorology, with a strong emphasis on translating research into operational, user-centric software solutions. As a scientist on this project, you will have the opportunity to work on challenging problems and collaborate with a dynamic team of researchers, engineers, and external partners to make a real-world impact on aviation safety and efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
- Domain Mastery: Actively learn and acquire deep domain knowledge in aviation and weather systems to conduct impactful research and build contextualised solutions.
- Research & Algorithm Development: Lead and conduct research in areas relevant to the aviation research project. Develop and apply advanced algorithms and models to solve complex problems in air traffic control/management and meteorology.
- Research Translation: Work closely with collaborators, researchers, and end-users to formulate requirements and translate A*STAR research into viable, user-centric software solutions and prototypes.
- System Design & Development: Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and modular systems. While this is a research-focused role, a strong understanding of software engineering principles is crucial for creating practical applications from your research.
- End-to-End Delivery: Oversee and actively participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation and consulting to deployment and maintenance of the research-driven solutions.
- Agile & Collaborative Work: Collaborate with a variety of teammates (designers, product owners, other researchers) to build features, design concepts, and interactive prototypes. Use and advocate for agile practices to consistently deliver high-quality software and bring value to collaborators.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate research findings and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Manage interactions with demanding stakeholders and align differing priorities to keep projects moving forward smoothly.
Job Qualifications
Education:
- A PhD degree in Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Technical Skills:
- Experience: At least 1-3 years of relevant post-graduate research or professional software development experience.
- Programming Proficiency: Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++. Experience with front-end technologies like TypeScript and React is a plus.
- Scientific Computing & Modelling: Proven experience in scientific computing, data analysis, and developing mathematical or machine learning models.
- Software Craftsmanship: Strong foundation in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and the ability to write clean, high-quality, and well-tested code.
