OUR MISSION

Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self-efficacy, access to world-class instruction, and financial education.

About This Role

Lead the Systems. Build the Team. Strengthen the School.

Running an exceptional school where children are loved and valued requires more than just great instruction — it requires excellence in school-based operations. The Business Operations Director (BOD) is the senior operations leader on the campus and the strategic partner to the Principal on every non-instructional system that keeps the school running.

As Business Operations Director, you will lead the campus operations team — including the Office Manager, Office Associates, Operations Associates, and other operations staff — and own campus-level finance, compliance, facilities, vendor management, enrollment strategy, testing logistics, and risk management. You will partner closely with the Principal, the network operations team, and the campus operations team to ensure teachers can maximize their time on scholar learning and growth.

If you are a detail-oriented leader who thrives in complex environments, enjoys building and managing teams, and is passionate about strengthening schools through operational excellence, we invite you to apply.

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead the people and systems that keep your campus running with excellence.

As Business Operations Director, you will:

Operations Team Leadership

  • Directly supervise the Office Manager and, through them, the Office Associates and Operations Associates

  • Hire, onboard, coach, and develop the campus operations team in partnership with the Principal and Talent Team

  • Set clear expectations, lead weekly check-ins, and conduct performance reviews for operations staff

  • Build a service-oriented culture in which operations enables instruction and scholar success

  • Lead operations team meetings, professional development, and capacity-building

Finance & Budget Management

  • Manage the campus budget in partnership with the Principal and the network Finance team

  • Lead campus-level purchasing, procurement, vendor selection, and contract management

  • Approve expenditures, reconcile spending against budget, and resolve variances proactively

  • Oversee free/reduced-lunch program reporting and accountability at the campus level

  • Ensure accurate financial documentation, audit-readiness, and timely submission of receipts and reports

  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer and Grants Manager on grant-funded campus initiatives

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure campus compliance with federal, state, and charter-authorizer operational requirements in every state in which Movement Schools operates

  • Partner with the Director of Compliance & Accountability on enrollment reporting, attendance accuracy, scholar records, immunization compliance, and emergency preparedness

  • Lead campus response to authorizer site visits, monitoring visits, and audits

  • Maintain compliant scholar cumulative files, personnel files, and operational records

  • Manage campus risk — including insurance, safety drills, emergency protocols, and incident reporting

  • Ensure FERPA-compliant data handling across all operational systems

Enrollment Strategy & Scholar Retention

  • Lead campus enrollment strategy in partnership with the Principal and network Enrollment team

  • Set and monitor enrollment, attendance, and retention targets

  • Analyze enrollment, attendance, and withdrawal data to identify trends and inform interventions

  • Oversee the Office Manager’s execution of enrollment processes, attendance tracking, and family retention follow-ups

Facilities, Safety & Vendor Management

  • Oversee facilities operations, maintenance, custodial services, and facilities-related vendor relationships

  • Manage school safety planning, emergency response protocols, and required safety drills

  • Lead campus response to facilities emergencies and coordinate with leadership and network ops

  • Manage vendor relationships including food service, transportation, IT, and supply contracts

  • Ensure the campus environment is safe, clean, well-stocked, and ready for scholars and staff each day

Testing, Logistics & Campus Initiatives

  • Lead logistics for state assessments, network assessments, and other testing windows

  • Coordinate logistics for school events, professional development, parent events, and major campus initiatives

  • Partner with the Principal on staff planning, master scheduling logistics, and start-of-year/end-of-year operations

Strategic Partnership with the Principal

  • Serve as the Principal’s thought partner on every non-instructional decision

  • Identify operational challenges proactively and implement solutions that improve efficiency and effectiveness

  • Translate network operations strategy into campus execution

  • Represent the campus on network operations calls and cross-campus operations initiatives
