Wood Fabrication & Assembly Technician - Part Time
The Crating, Packaging & Assembly Technician is responsible for constructing custom packaging solutions, performing specialized carpentry and fabrication work, and supporting final assembly of customer specific designs. This role ensures safe, secure, and quality controlled preparation of specialized, oversized, or sensitive shipments. The technician collaborates closely with operations and logistics teams to deliver high quality custom solutions from initial build to final assembly.
Key Activities
- Build and assemble custom crates, pallets, and protective packaging tailored to unique shipment specifications.
- Measure, cut, and prepare materials to ensure proper fit, stability, and durability during transport.
- Perform detailed carpentry and fabrication work using saws, pneumatic tools, and woodworking equipment.
- Fabricate custom structures or components required to secure or support specialized freight.
- Apply heat shrink wrapping techniques to protect sensitive, oversized, or irregularly shaped items from environmental exposure.
- Assist in the final assembly of customer designed products, components, or displays.
- Interpret drawings, design specifications, or layout instructions to ensure accurate assembly.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, or project leads to troubleshoot fit, function, or design adjustments.
- Inspect completed crates, assemblies, and packaging for accuracy, durability, and compliance with customer and transportation standards.
- Maintain a safe working environment by following all company safety guidelines, tool procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with logistics, warehouse, and freight teams to ensure timely preparation and movement of materials.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and assist with inventory or material tracking as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training or coursework in carpentry, fabrication, industrial arts, or related fields preferred.
- Vocational certifications in woodworking, construction technology, or manufacturing processes are a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, or design specifications (formal training or equivalent experience acceptable).
- Experience in carpentry, woodworking, fabrication, or crate building (preferred).
- Hands on assembly experience or familiarity with custom design builds.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
- Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams, or basic technical design documents.
- Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to lift, carry, or maneuver materials and equipment as job duties require
