Job Summary
The Welder Helper reports directly to the Service Manager and will assist the welder with fabrication, and provides preventative and repair services to current equipment owned by Griffin Fluid Management. The Welder Helper tasks include but not limited to; preparing materials, setting up equipment and work area, assisting lead welder, grinding or brushing welds, moving equipment in and out of the shop, and maintaining a clean and safe work area.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist welders with setup and cleanup of work area
· Prepare materials for welding (cutting, grinding, cleaning)
· Operate basic hand and power tools
· Move and position materials using overhead crane or other equipment
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment
· Perform other tasks as needed to support the lead welder
· Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
· Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Skills
· Minimum of one year in maintenance welding experience including the use of Mig and Stick welders, CNC plasma cutter and acetylene cutting torch.
· Welding aptitude with a desire to learn; Ability to obtain any welding certificates needed to perform certain tasks or projects
· Metal preparation (torch, plasma, drill press, band saw, grinders, etc)
· Familiarity with shop equipment i.e. drill press, cranes, grinders and saws
· Knowledge of relative safety standards and will comply with the use of protective clothing (face-
shield, gloves etc.).
· Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Qualifications/Requirements
· Authorized to work in the US.
· Pass required drug and background screens.Must pass a physical exam
· Ability to accurately read a tape measure, gauges and calipers.
· Familiarity with shop equipment i.e. drill press, cranes, grinders and saws
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Forklift experience, or willingness to train
· 1-2 years’ experience in a welding and fabricating environment (preferred)
· Ability to lift up to 50lbs and stand for extended periods of time
Physical Demands
· Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and stand.
· Must be able to lift 50 - 80 pounds daily.
· Must be able to load, unload, and move large equipment and tools.
· Continuous walking, stair climbing, and lifting.
Compensation
· Title and/or rate of pay may be adjusted based on experience or skills
