Our growing company is seeking an experienced Night Warehouse Manager to support our Pet Distribution business at our Milwaukee, WI location. The Pet Distribution team works together to supply our customers with the nation’s top brands of pet supplies like Nylabone, Kaytee, and Aqueon. In this role you will be responsible for managing all activities including order selecting and shipping. Responsible for assisting the Operations Manager with management of all warehouse activities and supervision of all warehouse employees.  The primary focus of this position will be to ensure that all warehouse activities are completed in a cost-effective and timely manner. This includes order picking, replenishment, shipping and delivery of pet foods and accessories for Central Pet Distribution.  This position will also assist with hiring, training, and development of warehouse personnel. This person will also provide support and backup to other leadership positions.

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the supervision of exempt and non-exempt warehouse staff and assists with drivers. Responsible for ensuring that all activities for the Distribution Center are completed in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner. This includes receiving, warehousing, shipping and delivery of pet foods and accessories. Also responsible for the hiring, training and development of warehouse personnel.  Must provide support to the site leadership to meet P&L budget and established KPI’s.
Standard work schedule for this role is expected to be Monday through Friday, starting at 5:00pm until completion of the shift.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the development, implementation and administration of policies, procedures in areas of receiving, order selection, physical inventory, and cycle counting.
  • Assist with hiring, training, development, evaluation, and discipline warehouse personnel. This includes planning, scheduling personnel and monitoring employee workload, documenting employee performance and conducting performance reviews to fit operational needs.
  • Ensure time sheets for hourly personnel are accurate and complete prior to payroll processing.
  • Work with Warehouse Supervisors and other Department Managers to meet Company objectives.
  • Ensure operations comply with federal, state, local laws, and regulations.
  • Promote a safe and efficient work environment for all employees. 
  • Active member of the Safety Committee, which includes scheduling monthly meetings, quarterly walk-through inspections of the facility, following up on any safety concerns, electing safety committee members on an annual basis and ensuring the safety of all employees, guests, vendors, etc.
  • Regular attendance and onsite presence
  • Responsible for daily management/supervision of quality systems and ensuring employees meet company requirements.
  • Performs system transactions in Prelude and Vocollect Voice Console.
  • Perform the duties of the warehouse and supervisory personnel, including receiving, order selecting, pallet drops and loading trucks as needed.
  • Work hands on with employees during the orientation and training period by inspecting orders on the warehouse floor.
  • Assist with maintenance of the facility, material handling equipment and vehicle fleet. 
  • Communicate any issues with the Operations Manager and other department leadership.
  • Work with employees and customers to solve problems in a professional manner.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 - 5 years of previous management experience in a fast-paced, high volume distribution environment.
  • Must be familiar with, understand, abide by, and enforce all Company policies and procedures.
  • Able to safely operate and become certified in the operation of all warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks and shrink wrap machines.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and management skills to aid in the development, direction, delegation, and discipline of staff. Must be understanding of people and their problems, diplomatic and have a sense of fairness and consistency.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written format. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Must be flexible to changing customer or operational demands and able to work overtime on short notice. Position requires working until the job is complete. 
  • Must be an excellent problem-solver, organized and attentive to detail.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the Warehouse Associates.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve results or work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to develop and document processes and procedures.
  • Excellent planning, time management, collaboration, decision making, organization, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based, and specific job-related software applications.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Previous forklift certification preferred.
  • Previous delivery and material handling experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with Vocollect and Prelude / SB Client preferred.
  • Previous experience in a continuous improvement environment. Lean or six Sigma preferred.
 
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
  • Previous forklift certification.

POSITION INFORMATION
