Job Overview
The Volunteer Engagement Manager leads the strategy and execution of volunteer recruitment, training, coordination, and retention for the Indiana Bar Foundation’s Civic Education programs. This role is responsible for building and sustaining a statewide network of volunteers, including attorneys, judges, educators, and community members, who support competitions, events, classroom activities, and other civic initiatives. The Manager will develop systems and partnerships that ensure consistent volunteer coverage, strong communication, and a high-quality volunteer experience while supporting the continued growth and statewide expansion of programs.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing a proactive, full-cycle, statewide volunteer recruitment strategy
- Building relationships with law firms, bar associations, universities, and civic organizations
- Representing the Bar Foundation at recruitment events and outreach opportunities
- Designing and managing communications, onboarding, and training processes for more than 300 volunteers across two statewide competitions (We the People and High School Mock Trial)
- Supporting the adoption and ongoing use of volunteer platforms and tools
- Overseeing volunteer scheduling and assignments for statewide programs and events
- Monitoring coverage and managing last-minute changes or cancellations
- Maintaining volunteer databases and tracking systems
- Analyzing recruitment, participation, and retention data
- Generating reports to support program planning and organizational goals
- Implementing volunteer recognition and appreciation strategies
- Developing pathways for deeper engagement (lead roles, committees, etc.)
- Gathering and responding to volunteer feedback
- Partnering with Development and Communications teams on outreach and reporting
- Supporting strategic initiatives and program expansion efforts
- Contributing to long-term Civic Education planning
Experience, Abilities, Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of experience in volunteer management, program coordination, event management, or a related field
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience building and maintaining professional relationships
- Proficiency with Google Workspace or similar tools
Preferred:
- Experience working with attorneys, educators, or nonprofit organizations
- Familiarity with event registration or volunteer management systems
- Experience with data tracking and reporting
- Interest in civic education, law, or youth development
Salary and Benefits
Salary for this position is commensurate with education and job experience, planned for $55,000-$60,000. The Foundation offers a comprehensive benefits package, including insurance premium coverage for medical, dental, vision, and long-term disability, employer HSA contributions, 10% employer 401(k) contributions, hybrid work schedule, and four weeks paid time off.
