Victim/Witness Assistant

Temporary (FMLA Coverage)

Looking for meaningful work where you can truly help people? Remember you’re not alone—we’re looking for a compassionate, organized Victim/Witness Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis while a staff member is on FMLA leave.

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys helping others, staying organized, and working in a fast-paced office environment. You’ll be a key point of contact for victims and witnesses, helping them understand the legal process and feel supported along the way.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a friendly, reliable point of contact for crime victims and witnesses

  • Share information about court processes, victim rights, and available community resources

  • Coordinate interviews and meetings with attorneys, advocates, victims, and witnesses

  • Provide support during court proceedings and help with victim impact statements

  • Keep in touch with victims and witnesses, help with restitution information, and document case contacts

  • Answer phone calls, respond to questions, and route messages as needed

  • Help keep cases moving by handling general office tasks like scanning, copying, emailing, and data entry

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED

  • At least two years of clerical or court-related experience (or a mix of education and experience that gives you the right skills)

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure

  • Comfortable typing, multitasking, and working with deadlines

  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and ability to pass a background check

Nice to Have

  • Legal, advocacy, or victim-services experience

  • Experience working with the public in emotionally challenging situations

Skills That Help You Succeed

  • Strong organization and time-management skills

  • Clear written and verbal communication

  • Attention to detail and follow-through

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and standard office equipment

  • A professional, kind, and respectful approach when working with others

Work Environment

This position is based in an office setting with regular interaction with the public. The role involves sitting, standing, walking, using office equipment, and occasionally lifting items up to 30 pounds.
