Job Description
The Vice President of Sales leads the strategy and execution of all sales efforts to drive economic impact in the Richmond Region through hotel room night generation. This role is responsible for developing and implementing both short- and long-term sales strategies, establishing performance benchmarks, and ensuring alignment with overall organizational growth objectives.
This leader serves as a key advocate for the destination, building strong relationships across the tourism and hospitality industry while positioning the Richmond Region as a premier destination for conventions, meetings, and sports tourism.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and lead the Sales Department strategy to attract conventions, meetings, and sports events
- Drive hotel room night generation and overall economic impact
- Oversee sales pipeline management, forecasting, and performance analytics
- Establish annual goals, KPIs, and accountability measures for the team
- Manage department budgets, including operational and incentive planning
- Evaluate market segments and identify growth opportunities based on industry trends
- Serve as the primary liaison with hotel partners, industry partners, and the Greater Richmond Convention Center
- Collaborate with Marketing and Visitor Experience teams to align strategy and execution
- Represent the organization with clients, event planners, rights holders, and industry partners
- Lead participation in trade shows, sales missions, client events, and familiarization tours
Oversee key accounts and major industry bids
Leadership & Team Oversight
- Lead and develop a team including sales managers, sports and events professionals, CRM administration, and support staff
- Set performance expectations, coach team members, and manage overall team productivity
- Contribute to hiring, development, and performance management decisions
- Participate as an active member of the senior leadership team
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of progressive sales and marketing leadership experience
- Background in destination marketing, tourism, hospitality, or related industry preferred
- Strong leadership, financial management, and strategic planning skills
- Experience managing budgets, teams, and performance metrics
- Ability to build relationships with business, community, and industry leaders
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and boards preferred
- Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office
CMP or CDME certification preferred
Work Environment & Expectations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-priority environment
- Willingness to travel overnight and attend events, including evenings and weekends
- Represents the organization with professionalism and integrity at all times
