Utility OperatorLocation: Worcester, MA 01605
Pay Rate: $20.00/hr (W-2) + 13% 3rd Shift Differential
Shift: 3rd Shift | 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 37.5 hours per week (includes 30-min lunch)
Interview: Required (Phone/Webex)
Training will be done either 3rd or 1st shift.
Position Summary
The Utility Operator supports manufacturing operations by ensuring efficient material flow across the facility. This role replenishes raw materials and packaging, assists with initial packaging of finished goods, manages stock levels, and stages materials for production. Utility Operators also contribute to safe operations by following all safety and PPE requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Replenish raw materials, packaging supplies, and cores at production areas.
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move raw/finished materials, load/unload trucks, and stage items.
- Manage inventory through QAD system using barcode scanning.
- Assist with machine changeovers and production line transitions.
- Restock packaging areas and alert supervisors when supplies are low.
- Weigh and dispose of scrap bins as needed.
- Move finished goods to shipping/warehouse for next steps.
- Participate in weekly cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Assist with receiving/shipping tasks including unloading trucks and crating finished goods.
- Follow all safety protocols and detect potential hazards.
Knowledge & Skills
- Prior manufacturing or warehouse experience preferred.
- Proficiency with forklifts, pallet jacks, and small hand tools.
- Ability to read work orders, follow SOPs, and use computer inventory systems.
- Knowledge of materials, products, and tooling to anticipate production needs.
- Strong focus on detail, accuracy, and workplace safety.
Education & Training
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Training period: 3–6 months to achieve full proficiency.
Accountability
- Works under general supervision, following oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Expected to handle materials and equipment carefully to prevent damage/injury.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Frequently handle up to 50 lbs.; occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Regular standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, and kneeling in tight spaces.
- May climb ladders and work at heights.
- Exposure to moving machinery, noise, heat, fumes, and dust.
- PPE required: gloves, safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses.
