UTILITY LOCATION TECHNICIAN - SURVEY (Full Time/ 40 hours per week)

PURPOSE: The Utility Location Technician (Survey) locates and marks underground City owned facilities for Digger’s Hotline, and performs entry-level survey engineering work. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that City utilities are located and accurately marked in the field according to the Digger’s Hotline guidelines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works under the direction of the Land Information Manager.
- Competently locates and marks City-owned facilities, including underground utilities for Digger’s Hotline.
- Safely operates a motor vehicle to carry out the business of the City.
- Performs mathematical calculations, and reads and interprets City as-builts and construction drawings.
- Assists survey section in the gathering and laying out of survey data for City projects.
- Maintains a daily record of all work performed, and enters data into computer filing system.
- Promotes and maintains positive departmental public relations and image with customers, which include other City departments and staff, developers, and the community in general. Responds or refers complaints to supervisor.
- Assist with review and compliance with right-of-way/excavation permit as they correspond with Digger’s Hotline tickets.
- Ability to report to duty in emergency situations and work on-call rotational shifts.

THE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school Diploma or equivalent; with a preference for an associate’s degree in Engineering Technology.
- At least 1 year of Digger’s Hotline locating or survey experience, including public works construction, and knowledge in reading and interpreting as-builts and construction drawings.
- Basic knowledge of computer software programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
- Valid State of Wisconsin Driver's License.
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with occasional overtime and rotational on-call shifts and ability to report to duty in emergency situations.
Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
2026 SALARY RANGE: Pay Range 121 is $31.04 - $35.49 per hour.
Appointment is normally made at the beginning of the range.
