Department Summary
The Upward Bound Program provides assistance in the areas of academic support, personal concerns, career exploration, and post-secondary information to identified students. The primary purpose of the federally funded program is to prepare students in grades 9-12 to attend and graduate from college
Position Overview
Summer Teachers are responsible for delivering engaging, instruction to students in a summer learning environment. The teacher will create a positive and dynamic classroom atmosphere that fosters academic growth, critical thinking, and creativity. This position involves implementing lesson plans, monitoring student progress, and providing individualized support to ensure that all students meet learning objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Teachers, Professors, and Graduate Students (Consideration will be given to Undergraduates in their Junior or Senior year)
Previous experience working with 14–18-year-old students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Subject matter, communication skills, flexibility, classroom management.

Job Duties
- Attend a training on May 12th (5:30-8:00pm)
- Create an 8-session curriculum with the help of the TEKS and the ADAD.
- Provide the ADAD and students with a syllabus.
- Provide a Pre-Test and Post-Test based on course curriculum.
- Provide lesson plans.
- Select an outstanding student from all of your classes to receive an award.
- Maintain control of the classroom environment.
- Be visible to and interactive with students and staff during on-duty hours.
- Enforce UB policies as written in the Student Handbook.
- Act as a positive role model for the students.
- Keep Administrative Staff informed of any unusual student behavior.
- Complete end-of-summer student evaluation reports.
- Adhere to the “Service Agreement,” “Code of Ethics,” and job description.
- Fulfill any other duties as requested by Administrative Staff.
- Insure the participation of every student.
- Teach the fundamentals of sports (recreational teachers).

Work Schedule
Morning teachers: 8:00am - 11:30am
Rec Teachers: 12:15pm-1:30pm
Afternoon: 2:30pm - 6:00 pm
