Job Description

The Employee Relations Partner is the first point of contact for managers and employees, and serves as a strategic partner and consultant, providing guidance on employee relations issues, workplace investigations, policy interpretation, and performance management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a resource and liaison for employee relations issues demonstrating a knowledgeable and comprehensive approach.Inspire trust and confidence with employees and leaders with the HR partnership.

  • Interprets and communicates HR policies, procedures, and employment laws to ensure consistency and compliance; demonstrates understanding of entity specific as well as UAB Medicine policies and procedures.

  • Partners with department leaders to support performance management, corrective actions, coaching, and progressive discipline; coordinates resolution of conflicts between employee and leader.

  • Exercises sound judgment to determine when to escalate complex employee relations matters to the appropriate internal or external partners i.e., BTAM, UAB Police, EACC, Risk Management, Compliance, etc.

  • Drafts, proofs and finalizes documents ensuring accuracy and compliance with policy/legal requirements.

  • Maintains appropriate employee relations files and records.

  • Participates in sponsored events and activities to remain knowledgeable of employee relations climate.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and three (3) years of Generalist or Employee Relations experience required. HR experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. The ideal candidate brings a balanced approach to both people and process, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment.


Preferred: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
