Join the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe as our Tribal Librarian, where you will lead the management and growth of our library as a vital community hub. This full-time (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) role is responsible for overseeing collection development, cataloging, programming, and staff supervision. By serving both Native and non-Native community members, you will ensure the library remains a premier center for lifelong learning, research, and cultural gathering.

Beyond traditional library services, you will play a key role in supporting the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer with preservation initiatives, managing financial reporting, and curating digital archives for the House of Seven Generations online museum. We are looking for a community-oriented leader who is passionate about promoting Tribal culture, language preservation, and literacy.

 

Essential Functions

  • Select and acquire books, materials, and resources that reflect the interests and needs of the Tribal community, according to the Collection Development Policy.

  • Implement and maintain efficient cataloging and classification systems to ensure easy access to library materials.

  • Maintain accurate records of library holdings and ensure their proper organization.

  • Collaborate with Tribal Citizens, Elders, youth, employees, and community groups to identify and address informational and educational needs.

  • Develop and implement programs, workshops, and events that promote Tribal culture, language preservation, and literacy.

  • Assist Tribal Citizens, library patrons, and community groups in locating, researching, and accessing resources.

  • Assist in the management of the digital archives, digital management plan, content management systems, and developing exhibits for the House of Seven Generations online museum.

  • Develop marketing materials and strategies to promote library services and programs.

  • Manage the library’s social media, website, and content management systems.

  • Collaborate with other Tribal libraries, school libraries, North Olympic Library System, Dungeness River Nature Center, and North Olympic History Center.

  • Prepare and manage the library budget, including allocating funds for acquisitions, programs, and staffing needs.

  • Submit applications for grant funding and administer grant projects, including budget monitoring and reporting.

  • Stay informed about library trends, technology, best practices, and educational opportunities.

  • Participate in relevant training and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.

  • Adhere to all JST policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety and work practices as described in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Either a Master of Library/Information Science (MLS/MLIS) OR a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Sciences with five (5) years’ experience in tribal, public, or school libraries.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge of library practices, policies, procedures, and techniques.

  • Knowledge of office administrative operations, including personnel management and compliance.

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suites, website maintenance, and business and collection management software, including the ability to troubleshoot systems.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication.

  • Research and data analysis knowledge.

  • Excellent organization skills, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and strong attention to detail.

  • Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates cultural competency.

  • Demonstrate initiative; ability to work independently with little supervision.

  • Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the following content management systems: ILS & Discovery Layer (Koha/Aspen), Palace Project, Biblioboard, WordPress, Mukurtu, PastPerfect, Open Source Databases, and Software.
