Job Title: Pediatric X-Ray Technologist Profession: X-Ray Technician Specialty: X-Ray Duration: 13 months Shift: 5x8.0 Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of X-Ray Technologist experience License: New York State license (or ability to obtain before starting) Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association ONLY) Must-Have: - Minimum of 1 year experience in a children's hospital - Minimum of 1 year experience in a level 1 trauma center Description: The Pediatric X-Ray Technologist will verify patients' identity and review physicians' orders before beginning x-ray procedures. They will use x-ray equipment to take radiographic images of patients' bones, tissues, and organs as per physicians' written orders. The technologist will explain x-ray procedures to patients and answer their questions. Positioning patients appropriately may include lifting and moving patients with limited mobility. They are responsible for handling all radiologic equipment safely and properly, keeping the dose to patients as low as possible. The technologist will observe each patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to meet their age-specific needs. They will produce high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by the Radiologist. Prompt notification of management regarding damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment is essential. Utilization of electronic patient information systems to verify patient names, dates, and appropriate exams is required. The technologist must understand and practice the dual patient identifier procedure. Maintaining accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and ensuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly is essential. Candidates must have completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology and maintain certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). They should possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, and a patient and compassionate disposition. The ability to report within 30 minutes to an on-call shift is required. A team player who can maintain a cohesive working environment is preferred. They must possess the ability to move or lift patients and stand for extended periods. Additionally, candidates should provide a skills checklist detailing familiarity with pediatric fluoroscopy exams (UGI, VCUGs, Barium Enema, etc.) and NICU portables.
