Surgical Services Aide Surgical Services Full Time/Days

The Surgical Services Aide supports the Surgical Services team by performing departmental tasks and various supportive services under the supervision of nursing and departmental leadership. Care and tasks are guided by hospital policies and procedures and are performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Duties
Observe patients, recognize changes in condition, and promptly report status requiring a Registered Nurse s attention.
Transport patients to and from the Surgical Services department.
Use standard precautions and transport specimens safely.
Clean instruments and equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
Assist with clerical duties, answer phones, and provide basic computer-related support.
Order and stock supplies, linens, and solutions in Surgical Services and operating rooms; return unused sterile supplies to floor stock.
Store surgical equipment in designated areas and help maintain organized storage.
Assist in positioning patients for operative procedures and in holding extremities during surgical prepping.
Document humidity and temperature levels in operating rooms and temperatures of refrigerators and warmers.
Prepare equipment and transport monitors, including necessary modules and cables, for procedures.
Conduct basic equipment inventory in operating rooms for readiness and perform other assigned duties.
Relieve clerical staff as needed.
Answer telephones, direct calls appropriately, and use computers, fax machines, and copiers.
Knowledge: Basic safety practices in a surgical or hospital environment.
Skills: Competencies obtained through completion of a basic orientation in surgical services, including safe equipment handling and patient transport.
Abilities: Safely transfer patients and move gurneys, IV poles, and wheelchairs; provide basic clerical support at the unit desk when needed.
Place patients first with safe, compassionate service.

High School Diploma or GED.
One year of acute, long-term, or institutional experience preferred.
Current BLS/BCLS certification required.
Adhere to attendance, dress code, safety, and confidentiality policies while following all applicable regulations and quality standards.
Work may involve stressful emotional and physical conditions, exposure to chemicals, radiation, contaminated instruments, and the need for PPE.
Role requires standing and walking for most of the shift, frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 lbs, and occasional lifting and moving over 50 lbs for patient transport, along with occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and reaching.
