Job Title: Surgical Assistant Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical First or Second Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Shift Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in surgical assistance in General/Neuro/ENT/Vascular procedures License: RN Certifications: BLS, Certified Surgical First Assistant Must-Have: - Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Assistant in General/Neuro/ENT/Vascular procedures - Experience with XI Robots - Familiarity with specific advanced surgical procedures Description: Functions as Surgical First or Second Assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures. Responsible for performing a variety of procedures or may specialize in a surgical specialty where appropriate. Performs responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist if required but will not do both roles simultaneously. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center with Magnet Designation. Patient types include Neuro/ENT, Orthopedic, General, Vascular, Laparoscopic, and others. Patient ratios are 1:1. Requires BLS certification. First Assist must complete a specific skills checklist. Candidates must detail their familiarity with procedures relevant to Vascular, Robotics, and ENT. The team includes Charge Nurses, Leads, and Supervisors for support. The charting system used is EPIC. Cross-training to various surgical specialties may be required. Weekend rotations are not applicable in this role. On-call hours require a 30-minute response time. Holiday expectations and scheduling details are subject to departmental needs. Surgical scrubs are provided by the hospital, and covered surgical bouffants are permitted. There are no call rooms available.
