Job Title: Certified Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Sterile Processing Technician Specialty: Sterile Processing Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Shift/Tuesday - Friday Hours per Shift: 10 hours (1200-2230) Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Required Certifications: Sterile Processing Technician certification required Must-Have: High School Education/GED or equivalent required Associates/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience preferred Description: Processes and sterilizes surgical and hospital instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical instrument sets and trays. Distributes patient care supplies and equipment. Decontaminates and processes instruments, including compiling instrument sets, counting instruments, and recording counts. Sterilizes instruments, trays, basins, etc., with the appropriate exposure and dry times. Prepares instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary. Maintains a clean and orderly environment in the department by daily wiping of counters, sinks, exterior surfaces of autoclaves, and high disinfection equipment. Cleans the autoclave chambers on a weekly basis. Assists with room turnover, terminal cleaning, and daily duties if necessary. Assists with picking supplies and instruments for upcoming cases. Performs daily diagnostic testing on sterilizing equipment, including test packs and biological indicators. Evaluates instruments for function and safety when reprocessing. Provides reprocessing services for ancillary department instruments as assigned and directed. Identifies and evaluates loaner instruments prior to processing. Records loaner information in a log for tracking. Maintains biological incubator and log; evaluates biological test results. Provides technical services and assists in the operating room, recovery, outpatient endoscopy, and central sterile as assigned and directed. Works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and reports to the perioperative services manager. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
