Position Summary
The School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech and language services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLPA assists with implementing therapy plans, preparing materials, documenting student performance, and promoting communication skills that support access to the educational environment. Essential Responsibilities
Therapy Support
  • Implement speech and language intervention activities as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Provide individual and small-group services aligned with student IEP goals.
  • Support development of articulation, language, fluency, voice, and social communication skills.
  • Assist with carryover of communication strategies in classroom and school routines.
Preparation & Materials
  • Prepare therapy materials, activities, and assistive communication supports.
  • Maintain therapy spaces and organize instructional resources.
  • Support use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems as directed.
Data Collection & Documentation
  • Collect data on student performance during therapy sessions.
  • Maintain accurate service logs and progress information for review by the supervising SLP.
  • Assist with clerical tasks related to service delivery and scheduling as assigned.
Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers.
  • Support generalization of communication skills across settings.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as directed (non-evaluative role).
Professional & Ethical Practice
  • Adhere to supervision guidelines and scope of practice established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and state regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development as required.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related field as required by state regulations.
  • Current state SLPA license, registration, or authorization (as applicable).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and adolescents.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a school or pediatric setting.
  • Familiarity with AAC devices and communication supports.
  • Knowledge of special education processes and IEP implementation.
  • Ability to support diverse learners and inclusive practices.
Working Conditions
  • School-based environment serving students across classrooms and therapy spaces.
  • May require travel between school sites within the district.
  • Frequent interaction with students with communication needs.
Physical Requirements
