The workload is manageable, with 3-4 vents per week. Assignments are divided among three nurses during days and evenings, and two nurses during nights. Certifications required include BLS and ACLS, with a strong preference for RRT and PALS. The patient population primarily consists of adults, with a few pediatric patients in the ER or minor surgeries on the floor. Coverage areas include Inpatient, ICU, ER, Labor & Delivery, Medsurg, Psych, recovery room, and sleep lab. Offsite visits to skilled nursing facilities occur very rarely and are considered a last resort. It is essential to have two years of experience and extensive vent management skills, particularly in ICU settings. Respiratory Therapists are responsible for drawing and interpreting ABGs, using the Epoc machine, assisting with bronchoscopies, attending codes, and rapid responses. No EKG duties are included. In Labor & Delivery, responsibilities involve setting up blenders and humidifiers, with pediatric doctors available for settings and intubations. Therapists will stabilize and transfer patients and perform capillary sticks. Occasionally, Respiratory Therapists may be required to assist in the sleep lab with oxygen adjustments. Intubation duties are limited to assisting only. There is a manager present during the week, with no designated leads, but resource support is always available. A variety of shifts are offered, including 8s, 10s, and 12s with scheduling options for 7-3, 3-11, 7-7, or 11-7. Every other weekend and holiday rotation are requirements. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating across all areas is mandatory. Dress code consists of black and teal intermix tops and bottoms. Vent and respiratory equipment used includes Draeger, Vision BiPap, V60's, Dräger Carina, and 2 Puritan Bennett units. Hospitalists are available 24/7, while intensivists are on call during evenings and nights. A two-day departmental orientation is provided. Strong communication skills are essential. Candidates should feel comfortable asking questions and must demonstrate flexibility. The facility is known for its accommodating and traveler-friendly atmosphere.
