Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapy Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Certification, PALS, STABLE Must-Have: NICU experience Description: Department: Respiratory Therapy. Number of treatments per day varies by season, with no more than 30 per shift. Workload may be heavier at times, as it is not divided by points but by floor. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, PALS, CRT or RRT. NRP is required only for NICU or for personnel handling infants. Patient population ranges from NICU to geriatrics, including ICU, stepdown, MedSurg, and a small pediatric unit. No PICU is present, and there is a level III NICU. Ventilation may occur occasionally. Coverage areas include inpatient and emergency room. Experience and skills required involve at least 1 year of experience, and first-time travelers are welcome. Must have NICU experience. Job duties include drawing and analyzing ABGs, providing breathing treatments, BiPAP, CPAP, and assisting with bedside bronchoscopies. RTs are required to assist with intubations and may place an LMA. There will always be a team lead or charge on shift. A traveler may serve as charge based on their experience and willingness. Travelers will not be the only RT in-house. Equipment used includes Drager vents, Cervo-NICU, Hamilton transport vent, vapotherm, Philips v60, and Philips v30. Shifts are 12 hours, from 6 PM to 6 AM, with self-scheduling options available including block scheduling. Attendance at department meetings is required once a month. Weekend commitments involve working every other weekend. Holiday requirements include working as needed. Low call or standby call requirement based on census. Floating between ICU, floors, NICU, and emergency room may be necessary. Scrub color is hunter green, which must be worn and is not provided. Department-specific orientation consists of one week based on experience.
