Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant Profession: Physical Therapy Assistant Specialty: FS Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: None required License: Current license from the State of Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as a Physical Therapist Assistant or eligibility to sit for state license and obtain within six (6) months of hire. Certifications: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Must-Have: Associates degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant Description: Under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant carries out the treatment plan developed by the Physical Therapist in accordance with physician orders. Responsibilities include providing supervised treatments indicated by the Physical Therapist using modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and hot and/or cold packs. The assistant also assists with patient transfers, exercises, walking, and more. Input is provided to the therapist regarding the effectiveness of treatments, adjustments needed to the treatment plan, and any adverse reactions. Appropriate documentation of progress is made in the chart, which must be co-signed by the licensed Physical Therapist. Motorized traction is administered to relieve neck and back pain. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, techniques, equipment, and procedures used in physical therapy is essential. The ability to adjust equipment to suit patients' needs is necessary. Effective working relationships with staff and excellent communication skills in guiding patients to assume responsibility for their treatment are critical. The ability to prioritize work and knowledge of computers are also important.
