Job Description & Requirements
Physical Therapist - Outpatient - (PT)
StartDate: ASAP Available Shifts: 8 D Pay Rate: $2267.00 - $2336.00
This outpatient Physical Therapist position is based in Dubuque, Iowa, a picturesque river city that blends historic charm with modern convenience. Nestled along the bluffs of the Mississippi River, Dubuque offers a vibrant yet relaxed lifestyle, with scenic views, walkable neighborhoods, and a welcoming community. Residents enjoy four distinct seasons, with opportunities for hiking, biking, and running on local trails, riverfront walking paths, and nearby parks and recreation areas. The city hosts festivals, live music, and community events throughout the year, and features locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, and breweries, as well as museums and cultural attractions that celebrate its rich history. With an affordable cost of living, quality schools, and an easy commute across town, Dubuque is an appealing choice for those seeking both professional growth and a high quality of life. You will join a dedicated, outpatient-focused rehabilitation team that values evidence-based practice, collaboration, and clear communication. The clinic emphasizes patient-centered care for adult orthopedic populations, from young professionals and recreational athletes to active older adults managing post-surgical rehabilitation or chronic musculoskeletal conditions. You will work in a modern, well-equipped environment with access to therapeutic exercise equipment, modalities as appropriate, and space for functional training and performance-based rehab. In this role, your typical day will include performing comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluations, developing individualized plans of care, and delivering a mix of manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, and functional training tailored to each patient’s goals. Caseload will focus on adult orthopedic diagnoses such as post-operative joint replacement, rotator cuff repair, knee ligament reconstruction, spine conditions, overuse injuries, tendonopathies, and general joint pain. You will provide regular progress updates to referring providers, educate patients and families on home exercise programs and self-management strategies, and support safe, timely return to work, sport, or preferred activities. Typical patient volume is designed to allow for both productivity and quality, with a structured schedule to support one-on-one patient interaction and continuity of care. Patient mix is primarily adult with a variety of activity levels and backgrounds, providing opportunities to tailor your practice to general orthopedics while developing depth in areas such as spine care, sports rehab, or chronic pain management. Depending on clinic needs, you may participate in specialized programs such as post-operative care pathways, injury prevention screenings, or performance-based return-to-sport progressions. Work hours are generally daytime, weekday shifts aligned with outpatient clinic operations, with potential for some extended hours based on patient demand. Weekend or holiday coverage, if required, is minimal and scheduled in advance. You will collaborate closely with other physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and support staff in a team-oriented environment that encourages shared problem-solving, case discussion, and continuous learning. This position offers a chance to grow professionally while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of living in Dubuque. The combination of a supportive clinical team, diverse adult orthopedic caseload, and the city’s blend of outdoor recreation, community events, and riverfront amenities creates an appealing opportunity for a Physical Therapist interested in outpatient musculoskeletal care.
