Trains department employees. Prepares departmental reports and budgets. Reviews all medication orders and accurately enters pertinent drug-related information into the patient's medication profiles. Performs patient medication profile reviews to develop drug utilization evaluations and quality assurance. Reports adverse drug reactions and food-drug interactions to appropriate committees. Performs audits of automated dispensing cabinets to assess medication accountability. Reports discrepancies to nursing supervisors and hospital managers. Liaises between the pharmacy department and administration, medical staff, nursing staff, and other departments. Maintains inventory control through cost-effective purchasing and formulary review. Manages pharmacy operations and activities of pharmacy technicians. Assists in training new pharmacists and technicians. Prepares performance evaluations for staff. Provides drug-related information to physicians and nurses to clarify medication orders. Supports clinical goals of patient care. Exercises independent judgment in decision-making among diversified alternatives. Does not directly supervise others but prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works with patients, customers, and healthcare professionals face-to-face or via telephone. Frequently interacts with individuals at the Director level or above. Leads pharmacy operations and staff in a hospital setting. Three or more years of hospital leadership preferred for competitiveness.
