Job Title: Pharmacist Profession: Pharmacy Specialty: Pharmacy Duration: 20 weeks Shift: 08:00-18:00 Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year recent pharmacy experience in a hospital setting preferred License: Must have a Colorado BOP license Certifications: Must have BLS certification from the American Heart Association Must-Have: - Must be knowledgeable of the patient population served. - Competent in the range of treatment needed for adult and geriatric patients. - Capable of entering a minimum of 40 medication orders per four-hour shift. Description: The Pharmacist works in collaboration with the Director of Pharmacy. According to standard procedures, compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving written prescriptions from physicians. Participates in performance improvement plans within the facility. Consults with and advises administration, medical staff, and facility staff on quality, regulatory, and risk issues. Supports and serves as a consultant to all clinical and medical staff. Assists in coordinating and implementing the activities of the Pharmacy. Interprets medication orders and dispenses medication and other pharmaceutical preparations in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards. Supervises technical support staff. Assists with clinical, quality management, and education programs. Provides support for all departments regarding the care of patients aged 18 and older, including geriatrics. Participates in the maintenance and dissemination of drug information through in-service education for facility personnel, consultations with patients, and collaboration with medical staff. Actively assists other pharmacists and technicians in their routine duties as necessary. Directs activities of and provides professional and technical guidance to pharmacy personnel. Exercises professional judgment when imparting therapeutic and drug information to patients and health professionals. Ensures appropriate pharmacokinetics dosing and monitors patient appropriateness for formulations. Interprets levels appropriately and modifies doses as needed. Writes progress notes per protocol and maintains accurate records of vials for reuse. Monitors the security of the pharmacy and controlled substances. Maintains aseptic techniques and ensures proper labeling of containers, including auxiliary labels. Fills orders accurately and prioritizes work effectively. Keeps current on new drugs and clarifies controversial orders with physicians. Reviews patient profiles to ensure appropriate and safe drug therapy, preventing significant drug interactions and adverse drug reactions. Maintains and informs staff about pending problems. Generates required reports and assists technicians in performing technical tasks.
