Job Title: Pathologists' Assistant Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Pathologists Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (09:30 - 18:00) Experience: Minimum 2 years License: PA (ASCP) Certifications: Required Must-Have: - ASCP - PA - NAACLS accredited education or an MD Pathologist with grossing experience Description: This position is for a Pathologists' Assistant with a focus on working within a laboratory setting. The role involves working with specimens primarily from surgical operations, including benign lesions and some cancer resections. Procurement for research and selecting tissue from patient outcomes for karyotyping is part of the responsibilities. The assistant may also perform biopsy grossing as required by staffing needs. Candidates may primarily handle benign cases and biopsies, with potential involvement in cancer cases based on workload. Medical screening and a background check are required prior to the first day of work. Candidates must be prepared for a detailed compliance process, including fingerprinting as necessary. Two professional references are required, with at least one coming from a managerial or formal leadership capacity. Candidates should have experience in specimen accessioning, specimen fixation, and gross examination of specimens. Familiarity with electronic health record systems is essential, and knowledge of specific laboratory procedures is highly desirable.
