Position Summary:
The Medical Psychiatric Nurse (Med/Psych RN) provides high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with complex medical and psychiatric conditions. This role uses the nursing process, critical thinking, and professional judgment to assess needs, administer treatments, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess patient needs to identify medical and psychiatric issues, monitor vital signs, and gather histories.

• Plan care, delegate tasks to ancillary staff, administer medications (including psychotropics like antipsychotics/antidepressants), and evaluate responses.

• Provide crisis intervention, behavioral health support, and education on mental health conditions, treatments, and coping strategies.

• Participate in rounds, advocate for patients, and contribute to treatment planning and discharge coordination.

• Promote a therapeutic environment focused on patient safety, manage difficult behaviors, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

• Synthesize information for high-acuity patients, complete unit competencies, and engage in continuous quality improvement (CQI).

• Document care effectively and use supplies cost-efficiently.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift/move patients and work various hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:

• Associate degree from a professional nursing program.

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.

• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.

• CPI Certified (Crisis Prevention & Intervention).

• 2-3 years of MedSurg & Psychiatric experience.

• Knowledge of psychotropic medications and interactions.

Preferred:

• BSN or current enrollment in BSN program.

• Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification (PMH-BC).

Additional Details:

• Full-time position in MedSurg/Tele & Behavioral Health Department.

• In-person work location.
