Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Psychiatric / Behavioral Health

Job Summary

The Pediatric Psychiatric Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to children and adolescents experiencing mental health, emotional, and behavioral disorders. The RN works in a therapeutic, structured environment to support patient safety, emotional stabilization, and developmental needs while collaborating closely with families and an interdisciplinary care team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct age-appropriate psychiatric and physical nursing assessments

  • Monitor mental status, behavior, and emotional well-being of pediatric patients

  • Administer and monitor psychiatric medications safely according to pediatric guidelines

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for children and adolescents

  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention appropriate for pediatric patients

  • Implement individualized treatment and care plans

  • Support admissions, transfers, and discharges

  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and coping strategies

  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record

  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, teachers, and support staff

  • Adhere to safety, HIPAA, and child protection policies

Qualifications Required
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oklahoma (or compact license)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric, behavioral health, or pediatric nursing experience

Preferred
  • Pediatric psychiatric or behavioral health experience

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar de-escalation training

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

  • Experience working with children and adolescents with emotional or developmental disorders
