Schedule12-Hour Shifts | 3 Days per Week (36 Hours/Week)
Day or night shifts may be required, including weekends and holidays based on unit needs.
The Pediatric Psychiatric Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to children and adolescents experiencing mental health, emotional, and behavioral disorders. The RN works in a therapeutic, structured environment to support patient safety, emotional stabilization, and developmental needs while collaborating closely with families and an interdisciplinary care team.
Key ResponsibilitiesConduct age-appropriate psychiatric and physical nursing assessments
Monitor mental status, behavior, and emotional well-being of pediatric patients
Administer and monitor psychiatric medications safely according to pediatric guidelines
Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for children and adolescents
Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention appropriate for pediatric patients
Implement individualized treatment and care plans
Support admissions, transfers, and discharges
Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and coping strategies
Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record
Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, teachers, and support staff
Adhere to safety, HIPAA, and child protection policies
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Oklahoma (or compact license)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Minimum 1 year of psychiatric, behavioral health, or pediatric nursing experience
Pediatric psychiatric or behavioral health experience
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar de-escalation training
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Experience working with children and adolescents with emotional or developmental disorders
Strong pediatric assessment and communication skills
Ability to build trust with children and families
Emotional intelligence, patience, and resilience
Strong crisis management and de-escalation skills
Team-oriented with excellent documentation practices
