Certifications: Must complete biennial renewal of licensure. Must-Have: Knowledge of professional nursing procedures; state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to nursing; skill in operation of medical equipment. Description: Provides professional nursing care in a correctional facility. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients. Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vitals. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatment plans. Monitors patients who may be in restrictive environments. Provides immediate medical attention in emergencies. Administers first aid and arranges transportation to hospitals as needed. Counsels patients regarding medical referrals. Schedules, assigns, and reviews work of lower-level staff when assigned. Participates in staff development and education. Reviews care plans written by staff and trains or orients new employees. Responsible for the health care of bedridden patients and evaluates care needed and rendered. Creates care plans and teaches healthcare principles. Organizes and oversees emergency response teams. Acts as lead worker in charge during assigned shifts. Assists physicians with diagnostic evaluations. Performs clerical tasks, including documenting medication and treatment records. Completes required incident and accident reports. Orders supplies and equipment and maintains inventory of controlled substances. Arranges appointments for outpatient clinics and medical examinations. Performs administrative tasks and serves as a liaison within the organization. Conducts and attends meetings as required. Serves as an instructor or participates in problem-solving teams as assigned. Demonstrates physical fitness and the ability to navigate concrete variables effectively. Writes meaningful, concise, and accurate reports.
