Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with this patient population Description: The role involves working in a cardiovascular stepdown unit. The unit supports patients requiring intermediate care and those downgraded from a higher level of care. Common patient diagnoses include cardiovascular conditions, arrhythmias, and heart failure. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 and 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours. Registered Nurses must titrate drips and manage medications including Amiodarone, Nitro, and other blood pressure medications. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift, who rarely takes an assignment. Patient care technicians assist with nursing duties on the unit. Hospitalist and intensivist coverage is available 24/7. Registered Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips. The dress code for the unit is navy blue scrubs. Registered Nurses may float to similar or lower acuity levels if needed. Weekends are required every other week. Additional time off requests will not be approved after submission. The charting system in use is EPIC. Candidates must comply with policies regarding artificial nails and testing requirements for orientation.
