Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with patients requiring intermediate care Experience with titration of drips Description: The unit is designed for patients who require intermediate care and downgraded from intensive care. It heavily supports thoracic and cardiac programs. Patients typically include those with heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and other cardiac or vascular diagnoses. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4, with a ratio of 1:3 for post-surgical patients during the first 24 hours. Registered Nurses are required to titrate medications, including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, and nicardipine, among others. There is a Charge Nurse present on each shift who may rarely take on patient assignments. Patient care technicians are available, with a staffing ratio of 1:18. Hospitalists and intensivists are present in-house 24/7, with cardiology on-call after hours. Respiratory therapy staff are also available 24/7. Registered Nurses are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips. The shift schedule is managed by the supervisor, with weekend requirements rotating every other week. Floating to units of the same or lower acuity is required. Navy blue scrubs are the designated dress code. All time-off requests must be provided upfront, with limitations on additional requests after submission. The hospital reserves the right to cancel shifts as needed throughout the assignment. Experience with EPIC charting is preferred. A BSN is not required for this position. This role is in an acute care setting within a trauma level 1 facility.
