Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Stepdown/PCU License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Must have 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience - Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips - RNs are required to titrate drips Description: Unit accommodates 30 beds. Nurse to Patient Ratios are 1:4-6 depending on acuity. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac conditions, post pneumonia cases, post cath lab patients, seizures, and ETOH withdrawal protocols. Familiarity with CIWA protocols and pacemakers is essential. Common titratable drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Heparin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Angiomax. Charge Nurse is present on each shift; however, does not take a patient assignment unless necessary during the day shift. Night shift Charge Nurse usually has a lighter patient assignment. Patient Care Technicians are available for assistance with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring. A hospitalist or intensivist is available on call at night. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7; they administer breathing treatments and manage respiratory equipment. Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting equipment. Monitor Technicians are available 24/7. Nurses are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms. Self-scheduling is allowed for RNs, who typically work 4-week schedules. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday requirements may include participating in the holiday rotation. No call or standby requirement is present. Travelers may float to any inpatient unit and will be the first to float. Dress code consists of navy blue scrubs. 2-day general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor will be provided. Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment, and 1 shift for assignments less than 13 weeks. Charting system used is Cerner. BSN is not required. Trauma Level is unspecified. Care setting is acute. Division is nursing.
