Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Ortho Neuro Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: EPIC experience Description: This role is for a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care / Stepdown unit. The unit will care for mixed acuity patients including tele and MedSurg assignments. Surgical patients may include urology, prostatectomy, bowel obstruction, mass removal, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and general abdominal surgeries. Ortho patients may include total joints such as knees, hips, shoulders, and ortho trauma cases. Neuro/Spine cases may involve CVA, TIA, and other conditions requiring neurovascular interventions. Preferred experience includes post neuro-intervention. General medical issues may include cellulitis, influenza, pneumonia, and renal failure among others. The role will require the ability to assess and manage multiple patient care tasks, including wound care and telemetry monitoring. Key skills include reading and interpreting cardiac strips, managing chest tubes and tracheostomies, and handling various intravenous lines. Patient ratios for the unit are 1:4 for RNs and 1:8 for CNAs. Support on the unit includes a pod structure, with staffing that allows for collaboration between RNs and nurse aides. The charting system in use is EPIC. Schedule rotation may require working weekends, with additional shifts being possible based on staffing needs. No mandatory call time is expected, but flexibility may be required. Holiday time off requests must be submitted prior to job offer, with specific blackout dates in effect during peak events. Monthly audits are conducted to ensure compliance with patient care standards. This position may include opportunities to precept nursing students.
